Easy DIY Valentine's Day Family Tradition

Ah, Valentine's Day is already upon us! I don't know about you, but I really am working on setting up great family traditions to do each year with our kids. While Valentine's Day baskets are great I wanted something a little more simple and not just another grab bag of candy my kids won't eat.😂

Enter in these super cute, but easy hearts for their doors! You can do it the week of Valentine's, the entire month of February, but I'm sticking with the 1st through the 14th. By now I'm sure you have seen it all over social media, but if you haven't let me be the one to introduce you to them!

The Magic of Family Traditions

Before I hope in it is important to note why these family traditions are so important to me. These are the things you really remember and stick with you as you get older. Traditions build strong bonds and give us a comforting sense of identity and belonging. They're the stories that will be told and retold, forming the colorful narrative of our family legacies.

So while it might seem like you're just cutting out paper hearts – but what you're really doing is crafting a masterpiece of shared memories and affection that'll outlast the finest chocolates. My oldest LOVES reading his every day and even his younger brother and sister love hearing what theirs says daily.

Easy "Love Note Hearts" Daily for the Door

So let's get to this DIY craft that is so simple and sweet, you'll wonder why it hasn't been in your family all along. Plus, how I'm making it REALLY easy on myself with three kids to make sure it isn't an extra stressor lol.

  • Cut your Hearts Ahead of Time: Cut out a stack of heart-shaped papers. Any color, any size—mix it up! I used the classic Valentine's colors of Pink, Red, and Purple, but the sky is really the limit here. Also, make it easy on yourself my folding several sheets stacked in half and cutting out multiple hearts at once. Or you can snag these from Amazon if you really want easy 😂.

  • Each Night: I cheated and wrote 7 hearts in advance for each of my kids for those nights that I'm just done, let's be honest it happens as a mom LOL. Otherwise, each night, write down something you cherish about your little ones. Or you can write an affirmation to repeat with them!

  • Ideas Galore: Stuck on what to write? Here are multiple ideas of things you can write about your kids:

  • I love how great of a friend you are!

    1. I love watching you learn and grow!

    2. I love how hard you try at everything you do!

    3. I love how creative you are!

    4. I love when you sing!

    5. I love your laugh and when you smile!

    6. I love how much you love to read!

    7. I love how great of a big brother/sister you are!

    8. I love how you make the world a brighter place!

    9. I love how brave you are!

    10. I love your insatiable curiosity!

    11. I love your sense of adventure!

    12. I love your kindness to animals!

    13. I love your talent for turning the living room into a fortress of pillows and imagination.

    14. I love how you dance like nobody's watching!

    15. I love your bear hugs!

    16. I love your artistic creations!

    17. I love your sense of humor.

Tips for Creating and Sustaining Traditions

As my kids get older I thought it might be fun to have them write something they love about one another as well. We aren't to that point, but I thought it would be a fun twist to have them share with each other the things they admire about one another.

Wrapping It Up with a Heart-Shaped Bow

Overall, starting traditions doesn't have to be something elaborate and grand or cost a pretty penny. Honestly the best traditions are those that are specific to your family, done on repeat, and make your kids smile that they will remember for years to come.

So, whether you're a newbie at family traditions or a seasoned pro, Valentine's Day is prime time to spread the love within the comfort of your own home. Start simple. Start heartfelt. Just start.

Tell me, have you tried this tradition with your kids? How did they like it!?
